Notes from the talk:
He was a student at long road from 2000 till 2002.
When he did his music video project he also had a choice over what music he was allowed to use. most people in the normal media class have to pick from a list of 12, but our class is allowed to choose the music.
His music video did not have lip syncing featured in it. Pete recommends using lip syncing as it shows off your skills in editing, but this obviously wasn't a major factor when he was here.
His main tip for the music videos were that you need a really solid idea, as well as a lot of planning to be able to for fill the filming in time.
When he went to Bournemouth:
He went there because there were loads of courses there he really liked. There were a lot of tutors there who had previously worked in the industry who lectured them.
He felt that the lessons at Bournemouth had a similar vibe as lessons at long road.
he had to do 6 weeks of placement working in the industry as a runner, he doesn't recommend doing that to "start" your career.
His first job was working at a record label unpaid called 'Creation'
His first music videos didn't cost much more then £100, filming live performances.
when you work in the music video industry you are given a track, and you only have a few days to pitch on it.
When you are trying to get a job you have:
- 3 days to make the pitch
- 1 week to plan
- Only 1 day of filming
- Then finally 3 days of editing.
Here is one of his music videos
